Samsung users have been fed up with the Exynos chip
Samsung is one of the largest semiconductor chip manufacturers in the world. In recent years, the company has always provided two chipset options in Galaxy smartphone models by region, one for Qualcomm's Snapdragon CPU and the other for its homegrown Exynos chip. Self development. Thinking that as a 'mainstream' CPU, Exynos will bring better compatibility and performance to Samsung smartphones than the Snapdragon, but the reality is exactly the opposite.
The difference in performance between Samsung products using Snapdragon and Exynos equivalents has become increasingly common and has become a controversial topic for many years. The culmination was recently on the website of opinion exchange change.org, a user named Daniel H created a petition asking Samsung to stop using Exynos chips on the company's smartphones. After just 1 day, the above petition received more than 2000 supportive comments. Especially after 3 days, the number of supporters has reached more than 10,000 and continues to increase. As a rule, if an opinion receives more than 15,000 supporting points, change.org will forward the petition to the recipient, which in this case is Samsung.
The petition asked Samsung to stop using the Exynos processor, known as "inferior", in its flagship smartphones, such as the S and Note series. The specific reason given by users is that versions running Exynos' chips work more slowly, give less battery life, sensors and cameras perform less efficiently than versions using Qualcomm chips, too fast. hot, and a whole host of other issues ".
Of course, Snapdragon isn't always better than Exynos in every way. For example, in the era of Galaxy S6 / Note5 to S8 / Note 8, the compatibility and processing power of Exynos has always been rated as equal, even slightly better than Snapdragon in some tasks. Recently, however, Samsung's semiconductor technology seems to have failed to keep up with Qualcomm, resulting in its Exynos chip getting worse and worse than its competitor.
For a simple example, according to AnTuTu Benchmark, the Galaxy S20 + version uses Exynos chip with more than 512 thousand performance points, while the Qualcomm chip version reaches 587 thousand points - the difference is worth considering.
The controversy between Exynos and Snapdragon has often 'come up again' every time Samsung launches new products. Perhaps it's time for the Korean manufacturer to really think about the arrival of the Exynos chip in its future phones.
