Nio Phone 2: flagship smartphone model with absolutely no pre-installed commercial applications
In September 2023, Chinese electric car company Nio surprised everyone when they announced their foray into the smartphone segment, with the launch of a quite unique smartphone model called Nio Phone, mainly aimed at the high-end market segment. Besides its powerful configuration, the factor that attracts Nio Phone's attention lies in the fact that this smartphone model does not come pre-installed with any commercial applications.
Following the initial success of Nio Phone, the Chinese manufacturer continues to launch Nio Phone 2. The new generation model will maintain the tradition of seamless integration with the company's electric vehicle ecosystem, accompanied by digital Impressive hardware specs and a 'clean' software, with no pre-installed commercial apps.
Nio Phone 2 is equipped with a 6.82-inch QHD+ panel with a maximum brightness of 2600 nits. This display is essentially a custom four-sided curved panel manufactured by Samsung, supporting variable refresh rates from 1Hz to 120Hz, and 1440Hz high-frequency dimming for a smoother visual experience.
Powering the device is the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, ensuring Nio Phone 2's performance is among the top on the market. The phone is integrated with the unique 'Gun Yu Thermal System', providing effective temperature management performance during demanding tasks. Nio claims the phone can maintain a surface temperature of 40°C when running 'Honor of Kings' at 119fps, and 47.6°C when playing 'Honkai Impact 3' at 59.5 frames/second.
The camera system includes a 48MP LYT-T808 (IMX888) main sensor, a 48MP LYT-600 (IMX882) ultra-wide-angle lens and a 50MP IMX890 periscope telephoto lens. Nio Phone 2 is equipped with a 5020mAh battery, supports 80W wired charging and 50W wireless charging.
One of the most interesting features of the Nio Phone 2 is the software. The phone runs a custom version of Android that Nio claims has "0 system ads and 0 pre-installed commercial apps".
In addition, Nio Phone 2 also integrates "NOMI GPT", a set of AI features developed by Nio itself, including a large model encyclopedia, AI-powered chat experience and related functions to the car.
Similar to generation 1, Nio Phone 2 is also equipped with a dedicated button so users can close or open the company's car. The manufacturer also integrates the NIO Link application to help users connect their phone and car seamlessly. This application allows users to control the air conditioning, seats and music in the car. At the same time, NIO Link also displays the vehicle's battery capacity and estimated range right on the phone.
'NIO Link Car Broadcast' function. It allows users to directly access the vehicle's camera system for live streaming or even show off their driving perspective in WeChat video calls (the latter feature requires operation from the passenger seat) .
The Nio Phone 2 will only go on sale in the Chinese market on August 10, with three configuration options available: The base model with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage costs 6499 yuan (about 22,000 yuan). 6 million VND), the mid-range option with 12GB RAM and 1TB memory costs 6899 yuan (about 24 million VND) and the top-end "EP Edition" with 16GB RAM and 1TB memory costs 7499 yuan ( about 26 million VND).
