Microsoft warns that the next versions of Windows 11 Insider Preview Dev channel will be less stable

Users should consider switching to the Windows 11 Insider Preview Beta channel before new updates are available.

Windows 11 was released by Microsoft at the end of June. Not long after, the first Insider Preview was released to users participating in the Windows Insider Program. So far, there have been several Windows 11 Insider Preview builds available through both the Dev channel and the Beta channel.

Most testers, both veterans and amateurs, agree that the Windows 11 Insider Preview versions on the Dev channel provide a fairly smooth experience. Compared to the first test versions of Windows 10, Windows 11 Insider Preview is stable, with much fewer errors.

However, that stability could soon end.

Microsoft has just sent out a letter to the Windows Insider Preview community. In it, the software giant warned that future versions of Windows 11 Insider Preview Dev channel will be less stable.

This comes from Microsoft's push to test new Windows 11 features on the Dev channel. Users participating in the Windows 11 Insider Preview Dev channel may encounter annoying problems or unresolvable errors.

To avoid that, Microsoft recommends that users consider switching to the Beta channel before new Windows 11 Insider Preview builds are released. "Please switch to the Beta channel if you want a more stable Windows 11 Insider Preview experience , " Microsoft wrote.

How to change the Windows Insider Preview channel as follows:

  1. Press Windows + I to open Settings
  2. Access Windows Update
  3. Access the Windows Insider Program
  4. Click Choose your Insider settings
  5. Select the channel you want (Dev or Beta, no Release Preview yet )

The official version of Windows 11 is expected to be released later this year. However, if you want to update Windows 11 for free, you may have to wait until early 2022.
