List of Mac devices that will support macOS 26
Apple is expected to announce macOS 26 (also known by the codename macOS Tahoe) at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) next week.
Apple is expected to announce macOS 26 (also known by the codename macOS Tahoe) at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) next week. As many sources have reported in the past, all of Apple's operating systems at WWDC this year will have name changes, be equipped with a redesigned user interface, and a series of new AI features.
The reason behind the version number being "26" instead of '19' in the sequential order is that Apple wants to align its naming schedule with its 2025-2026 release cycle. This version numbering will also be applied to iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS. While skipping multiple software versions is confusing, it could help maintain consistency across the Apple ecosystem.
Along with the slew of changes, many Mac owners are also wondering whether their devices are compatible with the upcoming macOS 26. Here is a list of Mac devices that are (expected to) support macOS 26:
- MacBook Air (M1 or later)
- MacBook Pro (2019 or later)
- iMac (2020 or later)
- Mac mini (M1 or later)
- Mac Studio (all models)
- Mac Pro (2019 and later)
It is worth noting that according to leaked sources, Apple may end software support for the 13-inch MacBook Pro (2020 model, 2 Thunderbolt 3 ports). At present, this statement still needs to be considered with caution.
The 2020 13-inch MacBook Pro was released with both Intel and Apple Silicon M1 chips, along with two different port configurations. Apple is expected to discontinue many Intel-based Macs this year, and this particular MacBook Pro model may be on the list of possible removals.
WWDC 2025 kicks off on June 9. During the event, Apple will unveil the latest version of its operating system with a completely refreshed interface and a series of AI-related features. Previously, the list of Apple Watch models that support watchOS 26 was also rumored. Apple will officially announce the list of compatible devices at the event on Monday.
