Lenovo aims to be the No. 1 PC maker
Yang Yuan-qing (CEO) of Lenovo Computer Group said that they are aiming to overtake Hewlett-Packard (HP) of the US to become a personal computer manufacturer ( PC) the world's largest in 2012.
According to market research firm IDC, Lenovo shipped 13.01 million PCs to the global market in the fourth quarter of 2011, accounting for 14.04% of the market.
With that achievement, Chinese computer firms only ranked behind HP Group with the export volume of 15.12 million units, corresponding to the market share of 16.13%.
Earlier, in the fourth quarter of 2010, Lenovo's global market share was 10.25%. After maintaining its position as the number one PC maker in China, Lenovo has worked hard to expand its global reach, and focuses on emerging markets that have a lot of demand for PCs.
The company also proved to be "very hands-on ," when it invited former President and CEO of Taiwan-based computer maker Acer to head, taking the leading position in marketing in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
While many international PC firms say their shipments will drop by 10-15% in January 2012, the 'Chinese PC giant' is expected to grow by 5-8%.
With such strides, Lenovo has reason to believe that the top spot in the global PC market will be in their hands this year.
