Google fixed the time of death for App Maker
Google is one of the most successful technology companies in the world with hundreds of online products and services being used regularly by billions of people. But Google is also a notorious name in purging products and services as soon as they prove ineffective. In fact, the Mountain View company also owns a website dedicated to listing and providing information about its deceased products.
And the next new name to join this list will be App Maker.
On January 27, Google officially announced the time of death for enterprise-class custom application builder platforms, and the reason given was that it contributed to the killing of development solutions. Develop other low code.
App Maker will officially shut down on January 19, 2021. That way, companies will have almost a year to prepare for any necessary changes. Also starting April 15, 2020, you will no longer be able to create new App Maker applications.
Specifically, Google will gradually disable App Maker, following these three steps:
- January 27, 2020 : App Maker is no longer under active development, however the service will continue to be maintained. Existing applications continue to work.
- April 15, 2020 : You will no longer be able to create new App Maker applications, but you can still edit and deploy existing applications.
- January 19, 2021: All App Maker applications will stop working and you will no longer have access to them.
App Maker user data is stored in CloudQuery. Google says this data will continue to be retained according to the policy set by the user's GCP account. All App Maker application editing data will remain accessible until January 19, 2021. Of course Google also offers a few alternatives that you can use. If you use App Maker to automate business processes, you can switch to AppSheet, a new service acquired by Google a few weeks ago. App Maker data is stored in Cloud SQL and App Sheet supports Cloud SQL database, allowing you to build an application on an existing database attached to the App Maker application.
You can also use App Engine for Google Cloud Platform applications. If you use App Maker to collect data, you can switch to Google Forms.
