At the Computex computer show in Taiwan this week, Asus unveiled five notebooks equipped with a very new feature, the ability to surf the web instantly without having to go to Windows.

The first five laptops equipped by Asus with this feature are M70T, M50V, M51T, F8Va and F8Vr. These laptops use Splashtop software from DeviceVM.

This technology is used on Asus laptops with the new name Express Gate. This feature was introduced along with a single type of Asus motherboard, but has now been extended to its entire P5Q motherboard family.

According to Asus, this feature is completely different from the ability to browse media (listening to music and watching movies) instantly available on many laptops in the market in that it is essentially the use of Linux operating system with both FireFox browser and Skype.

Benefits of this feature are: The ability to 'online' and 'offline' very quickly, without losing Win time, useful for travelers, want to be online immediately in just a few minutes while waiting for the plane . This also means that you can quickly turn off transit in transit instead of wasting battery power with standby mode - hibernate mode. And using Linux means Splashtop browser does not have to worry much about virus intrusion.

New Asus laptops are expected to be available in the market by the end of June or no later than early July. There will be many other laptops that will use this technology in the next few months but the detailed list has not been disclosed yet.
