Instructions on enabling drag-and-drop file functionality in Windows 11

In Windows 11 builds 22635.4950 and 27818.1000, Microsoft introduced a new drag-and-drop feature, displaying a convenient tray at the top of the screen that allows you to easily drop files into one of the displayed applications. Users can enable this feature via the ViVeTool command or by downloading supporting software. Below is a guide on how to enable drag-and-drop files in Windows 11.

 

How to enable drag-and-drop file functionality on Windows 11

Step 1:

First, download the ViVeTool to your computer following the instructions below.

Next, open ViVeTool using Command Prompt or Windows Terminal. Run the command below to enable it and restart your computer.

 

vivetool /enable /id:45624564,53397005

Step 3:

After your computer restarts, you can share files by dragging them from File Explorer or the desktop into the share tray at the top of the screen.

We select a file and start dragging it to the top of the screen to display the sharing tray.

Step 4:

Choose one of the apps you want to use to share files from the share tray. Or you can tap More to expand the file-sharing apps.

 

The new drawer interface appears at the top of the screen when dragging local files from File Explorer or the desktop.

Step 1 : Access GitHub to download the Windows 11 Drag and Drop To Taskbar Partial Fix tool from the developer nicknamed HerMajestyDrMona.
