Huawei is clearly looking for ways to make the camera on the P40 Pro + help users forget about Google
Huawei often likes to use P-series phones to showcase its world of groundbreaking new camera technology. In the context that Google services cannot be used, and the list of banned products in the global market is getting longer, Huawei's latest P-series phones need to be really different. And indeed, the users of the P40 (and especially the P40 Pro +) will be able to attend a grand party with a menu of all the fascinating new features.
Similar to Samsung's Galaxy S20 series, the P40 series is divided into three models: P40, P40 Pro, and P40 Pro +, of which the P40 Pro + is the only model equipped with all of Huawei's new technologies. That means the P40 Pro + has not only a 50MP wide-angle camera, a 40MP ultra-wide Cine lens, a 3x 8MP telephoto lens, and a ToF 3D camera, but also an additional 10x 8MP optical zoom lens. And when its two zoom lenses work together, Huawei confidently claims to have created the world's first dual telephoto camera system with optical zoom capabilities.
The idea behind the P40 Pro +'s two zoom lenses is to allow them to work together, from which users can zoom in and zoom out with greater precision and smoother. And yet, the P40 Pro +'s 10x optical zoom function can be even sharper than the 10x lossless zoom function on the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which uses a 4x optical zoom lens in combination with software processing to achieve zoom. university 10x. And if that's not enough, Huawei says that the 50MP main sensor of the P40 Pro and P40 Pro + is larger than any other sensor ever equipped by companies for their phones.
If you use the P40 and P40 Pro, you will have to accept zoom closer, because these two devices only have 3x and 5x optical zoom lenses. But all three versions of the P40 come with Huawei's new Octa PD autofocus system, where each pixel on the camera sensor has up to 8 autofocus points. It looks like you won't have to worry too much about the blurry or out-of-focus photos!
But does that make users forget about Google? Not yet, so the P40 series is also equipped with Huawei's Super Resolution technology similar to that on Pixel 3 and Pixel 4, which uses AI to enhance the quality of photos when zoomed up. In addition, the P40 has a high-definition AI engine that can help you remove unwanted objects or people in photos, an AI-based automatic white balance algorithm, and Super Night handheld night mode. Improved mode for better low-light photography.
Huawei also added a host of other new imaging and movie features, including directional audio zoom, dual video recording, super slow motion 7680 fps, and a massive ISO range that expanded to 51,200!
In terms of design, the P40 series has a screen that bends on all four sides (and at the corners is also slightly curved), with an in-display fingerprint sensor. Therefore, when looking at the overall, P40 Pro and Pro + has very small borders but still ensures a smooth "on hand" feeling. In addition to a range of colors on the P40, usually black, blue, silver, gold, and white, the P40 Pro + will have a white or black ceramic back with higher rigidity and durability.
Both the P40 Pro and P40 Pro + have a 6.58-inch screen, while the standard P40 has a smaller screen, 6.1-inch, all with a 90Hz refresh rate. It is interesting that Huawei uses a 90Hz refresh rate when Samsung's S20 series has increased to 120Hz, especially when the screen resolution of the P40 Pro and Pro + is also lower than that of the S20, only 2640 x 1400. Anyway, how to balance the battery drain features like the screen with the battery life of the machine is quite difficult, and Huawei must do what they think is reasonable.
On the front, Huawei also equipped with a series of new cameras and sensors, including a 32MP selfie camera, an ambient and proximity light sensor, and an infrared depth-sensing camera that allows unlocking with a mold. face under all lighting conditions. And though face unlock technology is different (Google uses micro-radar instead of depth sensor), the P40 even has a new gesture control system that lets you scroll content or capture images. Screen images that just need a wave of your hand.
And inside, every version of the P40 has at least 8GB of RAM, 128GB of internal memory, and Huawei's Kirin 990 chip - a chip that integrates 5G and has 30% more CPU and GPU performance than the Kirin 980 chip. on the P30 last year. And yet, to wipe out the memory of Google (specifically here Assistant), Huawei equips their new device with a completely new virtual assistant in Europe and another region called Celia, designed Designed to help you make calls, fine-tune settings, entirely by voice.
One final interesting thing to mention here: it seems that with the launch of the P40, Huawei decided to rely entirely on the App Gallery to replace Google and Google Play Store services. Huawei's App Gallery has a tool that allows you to find applications not directly provided by Huawei, but according to the Chinese company, it has more than 1,000 software developers working with outside companies to Help create apps for App Gallery. Even so, Huawei still lacks a lot of great games, and applications like Facebook, Whatsapp, etc.
To be honest, the range of new innovations and technologies Huawei has equipped for the P40 series really impresses users; and while not being sold in North America, as well as the lack of Google services, which leaves it with a choice of options from Samsung and Apple, there will be a lot of people who want to be in the hands of Huawei's P40.
P40 will be sold on April 7 for 800 euros for the regular version, 1,000 euros for the P40 Pro, and the P40 Pro + will sell later, in June, priced at 1,400 euros.
