How to turn off the touchpad on a Dell laptop in one go

Not only on Dell laptops, any laptop model is integrated with a touchpad for the convenience of users. But the operation on this touchpad cannot be as easy as a normal mouse, sometimes it also causes inconvenience to users. So how to turn off the touchpad on a Dell laptop?

Why should you turn off the touchpad on Dell laptops?

As you know, the touchpad is a flat surface designed to be integrated into the laptop. To use this touchpad, users will use their fingers to move on the hard surface to operate. It sounds simple, but operating on this touchpad is much more difficult than using an external mouse. 

And when using an external mouse, it means you are using 2 mice at the same time. If you do not turn off the touchpad when using it, you will accidentally touch it, causing the computer to perform unwanted operations that are quite annoying, especially when playing games or editing text.

How to turn off the touchpad on a Dell laptop?

Turn off touchpad with shortcut key

Not only on Dell laptops, but most laptop brands on the market today have a shortcut key to immediately turn off the touchpad on the laptop.

Depending on the model and generation of the machine, this function key is located in a different position. Usually on Dell laptop models, this shortcut key will be the key from F4 to F8 on the F key row of the keyboard. For easier recognition, you can look at the icons of these function keys. 

For example, in the Dell laptop model in the picture, we see the touchpad icon located on the F5 key. So to turn off the touchpad on this Dell laptop model, press the Fn + F5 key combination.

Immediately after pressing this key combination, a touchpad icon with a slash will appear on your laptop screen. This shows that the system has recorded the operation and immediately disabled the touchpad of the machine.

Note: To be able to turn off the touchpad using the shortcut key, you need to fully install the computer's driver, especially the keyboard driver.

Turn off touchpad in Settings

In addition to turning off the touchpad with the shortcut key, you can also disable it in Settings. 

Step 1: Left click on the Windows icon in the left corner of the screen > select Settings

Step 2: Select Devices

Step 3: Select Touchpad > click on the switch icon to slide the status bar to OFF
