How to troubleshoot the Photos app doesn't work on Windows 10
The new Windows Photos application (which actually appeared from Windows 8, but still the most recent integrated viewing option) has a beautiful interface and rich image filtering options. However, sometimes it does not work and this is how to fix it.
Note: Before following the fixes below, you need to run to check for corrupted system files on Windows 10. To perform a test, open the Command Prompt , enter the sfc / scannow command and start Windows again.
How to troubleshoot the Photos app doesn't work on Windows 10
- 1. Reset Photos app
- 2. Delete and reinstall the Photos app
- 3. Perform system recovery
- 4. Use Windows Photo Viewer
1. Reset Photos app
Resetting the Photos app will clear the application cache and reset all data to the default settings.
To reset, right-click on the Start menu and access ' Apps and Features '. Next, scroll down to click " Photos " in the list, then click " Advanced options ", and in the next window, click " Reset ". This removes all data from the Photos app, including any presets or saved images to their original state.
2. Delete and reinstall the Photos app
If the above does not fix the problem, you should try deleting the Photos application manually and then reinstall it. However, you cannot do this through the ' Apps and Feature ' list like with other normal applications. Instead, you need to use an advanced PowerShell command.
- 10 PowerShell commands help you manage the remote computer most effectively
Click the Start menu, type powershell , then right-click PowerShell and select " Run as administrator ." In the Powershell window type the following:
get-appxpackage * Microsoft.Windows.Photos * | remove-appxpackage
After pressing Enter , Photos application will be deleted. To reinstall it, go to the Microsoft Store app, search for " Photos ", then select and install the Photos app (note, Photos app developer is "Microsoft Corporation").
3. Perform system recovery
If you know about the time of the incident with the Photos application, you can perform a system restore to the point before the problem occurred.
Go to the Start menu, type restore and then click "Create a restore point ". In the new window click on " System Restore " and then follow the instructions until a restore point is selected. Choose the time before the incident and continue the process.

4. Use Windows Photo Viewer
For many people, the old Windows Photo Viewer works very well. Although it is not as flashy as "Photos", it works well and provides easy access to photos in folders.
Microsoft has gradually eliminated Photo Viewer, however, if there is a Windows 10 pre-installed computer, you can set up Photo Viewer as the default application. I wish you all success!
