How to Fix Silverlight Crashes
Method 1 of 9:
Reinstall Microsoft Silverlight
- Uninstall and reinstall the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in. The plug-in might not be completely installed. It is also possible that the plug-in component files are corrupted. Reinstalling the plug-in will resolve this issue.
- Press Windows Key + X.
- Select Programs and Features.
- Right click the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in, select the Uninstall option.
- Follow the removal wizard. Reboot your PC when you're done.
Method 2 of 9:
Download the Browser Updates
- Keep your browser up-to-date. The latest version will come up with bug fixes that might help you deal with Silverlight crashes. Here are the steps to download the latest version of Internet Explorer:
- Click the Start button.
- Type 'Windows Update' in the Search Box. Press ENTER.
- Click 'Check for updates' button. The update check-up process may take some time. After the process is completed, check-up all the updates including Microsoft Internet Explorer updates. Download and install the updates.
- Reboot your system.
Method 3 of 9:
Delete the Cache Contents
- Remove the browser cache contents periodically. Cache is a location that stores your most frequently accessed web pages copies. The cache may become corrupt over a period of time. Deleting the same will be helpful.
- Press Windows Key + R.
- Type "inetcpl.cpl." Click OK. Internet Options dialog will open.
- Click the General tab.
- Click the Delete button under Browsing History category. When you're prompted to confirm in a subsequent prompt, check-up all the checkboxes and then click the Delete button.
Method 4 of 9:
Add the Website to your Whitelist
- Whitelist the website that is causing trouble. Basically, the Whitelist is a list of all those websites added by the users which will not be blocked for any kind of content, such as, scripts. Adding the Silverlight-based website to the whitelist will prevent further crashes.
- Delete the cache.
- Click the Security tab in the Internet Properties dialog.
- Click the Trusted Sites icon.
- Click the Sites button.
- Specify the full address of the website you would like to add.
- Click the Add button, and then click Close | Apply | OK.
Method 5 of 9:
Clean your Registry
- Scan the Registry for problems pertaining with the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in. The plug-in entries are found in the Registry. These entries are accessed, and modified while you're browsing the Internet. Check the Registry for all sorts of issues and clean them up immediately.
- Download the Reginout System Utilities software.
- Install and open the program.
- Start the Registry scan process. This may take some time.
- Fix all issues detected in your system configurations database.
Method 6 of 9:
Rename MSPR.HDS File
- Understand what the MSPR.HDS is. The MSPR.HDS is a part of the PlayReady package from the Microsoft. The file may be corrupt. Instead of deleting the file, simply rename it with a new name.
- Double click on the Computer icon.
- Open the following folder: C:ProgramDataMicrosoftPlayReady
- Rename the 'MSPR.HDS' file as 'MSPR.HDS.BAK'.

Disable the Hardware Acceleration
- Understand what the hardware acceleration is. This is the use of computer hardware to speed up certain tasks. Disable the hardware acceleration to stop Silverlight crashes.
- Open Mozilla Firefox.
- Press the Alt key to show the menu bar.
- Click Tools menu, select Options.
- Options dialog will open. Click the Advanced tab.
- Click the General tab.
- Uncheck the box named 'Use hardware acceleration when available' under Browsing frame.
- Click the OK button.
Method 8 of 9:
Deactivate and Reactivate the PlugIn
- Go to the Plugins list page, and deactivate-reactivate the Microsoft Silverlight plug-in. The plugin may be not functioning properly.
- Type 'about:plugins' in the Address Bar.
- Press ENTER key.
- Disable the plugin and enable it again.
Method 9 of 9:
Change Service Properties
- Open the Services manager program in Windows. Make sure a service named Tablet PC Input Service runs automatically at Windows startup. If it is not configured to run automatically, set it up accordingly and restart the service.
- Press Windows Key + R.
- Type 'Services.msc.' Click OK.
- Right click Tablet PC Input Service, select Properties.
- Set the Startup Type=> Automatic.
- Click the 'Start' button to execute the service.
- Click Apply, and then OK.
