Dubai builds the world's largest waste-to-electricity recycling plant

The garbage power plant in Shenzhen East in China is currently the world's largest scale plant, but if the Dubai project can meet its objectives, the plant could surpass its scale. Both projects will be completed by 2020 and while both can handle more than 5,500 tons of waste per day, the capacity of the Dubai plant may be higher than in Shenzhen 20MW. However, it is not really a competition, and it is important to have more sustainable systems like these built in other countries.

The Dubai plant will be built on 2ha (5 acres) land in the Warsan area, and electricity will be fed into the local electricity network with HV 132 kV cable. Dubai City is partnering with Dubai's Electricity and Water Administration, Hitachi Zosen Inova of Switzerland and Belgian construction company Besix.

It will have a total cost of about 2.5 billion AEDs (680 million USD), with construction going to start in the next few months. If all goes according to plan, the plant must be completed and operated before Dubai holds the Expo 2020 event.
