Acer started manufacturing laptops at its new factory in China
Acer, the world's second-largest computer maker, has just opened a new factory in China's Chongqing industrial city on Thursday May 26, 2011.
The company expects the new factory to take 30% - 40% of its laptop production until the end of the year.
The Taiwanese computer maker said it is managing a factory and manufacturing its own branded laptops and netbooks at the 'global IT production center'. This factory will add forces in China to the carrier and also aims to place close parts suppliers. This helps the company lower costs and speed up production.
A representative of the company declined to say the cost and production capacity of the plant. After Acer announced plans for the plant in November last year, Chinese news agencies cited company leaders as saying that the investment cost for the plant was $ 150 million (~ VND 3,150 billion, and each year this factory can produce 40 million units.
In November 2010, Acer said it had chosen Chongqing to set up a factory, which is the source of labor supply and state support for this project.
In recent years, the Chinese government has encouraged foreign manufacturers to set up factories in the western region to boost development, in some cases exemption from taxes and land rent. Chongqing city leaders, with a population of 31 million, highlighted the technological growth of this industrial city.
HP (Hewlett-Packard) also plans to produce computers in Chongqing; Meanwhile, Taiwan's rival, Asustek Computer, earlier this year said it would build a hub in Chongqing by 2015 to manage manufacturing firms, with output of up to 20 million laptops and tablet a year.
