The new snake gold species was discovered by American scientists at the University of Chicago and named scientifically known as Hydrophis Xanthos.
This yellow-bodied snake species only hunts at night. They swim on the water and catch prey by opening their mouths and waiting. When the prey swims past, it will attack and finish.
Solid gold body and golden belly snake.
According to the researchers, the new snake has similar characteristics to the golden belly-snakes. These two snakes live only 22 km apart. The new snake has a smaller body and is covered in shiny gold.
Xanthos Hydrophis lives in an area only 320 km2 wide in a fairly harsh environment with intense ocean waves and extremely low oxygen content. Therefore, this snake faces a very high risk of extinction and is very vulnerable to changes in sea temperature due to climate change.
