Claude AI can now read health data and provide in-depth, personalized analysis.

Anthropic has officially launched a health data integration feature for Claude, allowing users to connect their favorite health tracking apps directly to this AI assistant.

 

Once granted access, Claude can summarize medical history and explain health indicators in simple, easy-to-understand language instead of jargon. This feature was announced earlier this month and is currently rolling out in beta to Claude Pro and Max users in the US, on both Android and iOS.

Connecting personal health data promises to help Claude provide more relevant analyses and recommendations based on each user's actual metrics. However, Anthropic still emphasizes that Claude's answers cannot replace professional medical advice, and serious issues still require assessment by a doctor or healthcare professional.

Addressing privacy concerns regarding the sharing of sensitive data, Anthropic is committed to implementing strict protection policies. Users must actively opt in before linking the health app with Claude. Health-related conversations will not be used to train the AI ​​model and will not be saved to Claude's conversation memory.

However, Anthropic has not clarified whether users' health data is processed for internal purposes such as service operation, safety monitoring, bug fixing, abuse prevention, or legal compliance.

 

Alongside features for individual users, Anthropic is also investing heavily in optimizing Claude for the professional healthcare sector. In the same blog post, the company announced Claude for Healthcare – a HIPAA-compliant version of Claude, allowing doctors to connect the AI ​​to databases such as CMS insurance policies, ICD-10 codes, and electronic medical records.

Initial user feedback on Claude's health data connections has been mixed. Some have begun feeding years of health data into Claude to build personalized tracking dashboards, while others remain wary about privacy concerns, despite Anthropic's commitment to a 'safe zone'.

Recent moves by major AI companies show they are striving to expand their influence into various aspects of users' lives. OpenAI has introduced health integrations to ChatGPT and has begun displaying ads to users with lower-tier plans. Meanwhile, Microsoft is aggressively expanding Copilot across its entire ecosystem and investing heavily in data centers.
