China forces all citizens to provide facial recognition data
A new and unprecedented law in the world has just been enacted in China, whereby all people who register a new phone number will have to provide face recognition data. This rule will take effect from December 1.
All people's data will be sent to the telecommunications company and then the Chinese Government. This will help the Government to control and eliminate anonymous phone numbers, avoid fraud and enhance security.
Like many other countries, it is common for Chinese citizens to register a new phone number with a telecom operator only to provide their identity card and photo. However, when the new law is applied, people will have to scan their faces and send data to carriers through facial recognition technology on smartphones.
According to the statement of the Central Government, the purpose of enacting this new law is to protect the legal rights and interests of people in cyberspace.
Earlier, in order to ensure people use their true identities on the Internet, China has also adopted a number of new laws. In addition, to control and assess people's behavior, the Chinese government has also adopted facial recognition technology.
However, the new Chinese law has also faced a lot of opposition, many concerned that these facial recognition data would be used to control the people.
