Asus, Dell, Lenovo and Samsung will have computers running Windows 8 RT
Devices running Windows 8 RT launched later this year will save more power and can update data in idle state when the screen is off.
Asus Tablet 600 runs Windows RT.
The newly introduced Surface Surface of Microsoft will not be the only device running Windows RT sold in this fall. The US software company today officially confirmed that other manufacturers such as Asus, Dell, Lenovo and Samsung will also have devices running this operating system platform.
On the same day, Qualcomm said it will provide new processors for devices running Windows RT for Dell and Samsung.
Windows RT is another version of Windows 8 for computers using ARM architecture processors that are currently heavily used in today's smart or tablet mobile models.
Asus previously introduced the company's 600 Tablet Windows RT model, but today is the first time Microsoft has confirmed this information. The company also said Windows RT will not be exclusively for tablets. This type of device can also support keyboard, touchpad such as a removable interactive dock or a style similar to a laptop.
Unlike Windows 8, Windows 7 or any previous version of Windows, users cannot install the operating system on their device even though they run ARM chips. This work will be controlled and implemented by manufacturers from iOS-like production on iPad or Android on other computer models today.
There will be many computer vendors launching devices running Windows 8 and RT.
However, Windows RT also has the same features as Windows 8 with Start Screen screen, app store and other features. However, Windows RT does not run older applications developed for Windows computers with x86 processors.
Microsoft said there will also be new versions of Office for this version of the operating system. Computers using ARM chips will have other outstanding features such as power savings far more than Intel processors. The software can update as email, message, data . even when the machine is in the state of turning off the screen.
