Astronomers discovered a 'candy cane' in the center of the Milky Way
The universe always contains interesting things beyond the imagination of people. Recently, an intensive space observing device called Goddard-IRAM Superconducting 2-Millimeter Observer (GISMO) has captured the extremely vivid image, showing sparkling constellations shaped like a candy cane. giant is located at the center of the Milky Way.
GISMO's discovery is completely accidental when this machine is being used in a project to explore our central galaxy region, where we can find countless vast, dense collections of The cloud of dust and gas contains massive, glowing star clusters similar to our sun.
'The center of the galaxy is a mysterious region with extremely harsh conditions, where objects move at higher speeds and often collide with each other. GISMO gives us the opportunity to view this area in the form of microwaves with a wavelength of 2 millimeters on a large scale, combined with angular resolution that perfectly fits the characteristics of the central region of the Milky Way. . Such large-scale observations have never been made before, 'said space scientist Johannes Staguhn, who led the research.
In order to produce the complete image above, the team began to reproduce from the raw data retrieved by GISMO, shown in green. Next, they used a combination of data from the European Space Agency's Herschel satellite (ESA) to better see the glow of cold dust from GISMO data. Not stopping there, the team continues to add infrared data from the SCUBA-2 device on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope, shown in blue. Finally, the longer wavelength radio data is obtained from the Karl G. Jansky radio interferometer, showing red patches.
Taken together, these data sources can reveal even more valuable information about the cramped region at the heart of our galaxy. The composite image shows the emission from the cold dust, the star-forming regions are growing strongly and especially the light emitted from millions of stars - magnificent, mysterious and extremely vivid.
