Arm introduces custom Cortex-A78 chip, Cortex-X and next-generation Mali-G78 GPU

This year is no exception because Arm has just officially launched the Cortex-A78 CPU and the latest generation Mali-G78 GPU. However, the information attracting the most attention lies in the custom Cortex-X chip. So what's noteworthy in Arm's newly launched products?

Starting with Cortex-A78, this is an upgrade that not only smartphone manufacturers but also users are looking forward to at the moment. Arm calls this the most efficient Cortex-A CPU the company has ever created, promising up to a 20% improvement in sustained performance compared to its predecessor Cortex-A77 - which is used on almost all power models. top-of-the-line smartphones debut this year - while energy efficiency is guaranteed to remain optimal. In addition, according to Arm's disclosure, this chip will provide an 'impressive, superior experience in 5G processing performance'.

Besides Cortex-A78, Arm also introduced a completely new line of Cortex CPUs, called Cortex-X. The goal of Cortex-X is to give manufacturers the ability to customize the processor in more diverse ways, thereby optimizing overall processing performance more perfectly. The first CPU model in this series is the Cortex-X1, and according to Arm, this will be the most powerful Cortex CPU ever, promising a 30% increase in high-performance processing compared to the current Cortex-A77. As for the GPU, Mali-G78 is the second generation of GPUs developed based on the company's Valhall architecture. Arm says the new GPU promises 25% more graphics processing performance than last year's version. In addition, the new Mali-G78 can support up to 24 cores, while providing better energy efficiency and battery savings.

Last but not least is the presence of a dedicated neural processor that handles AI-related tasks (NPU) called Ethos-N78.
