Apple will make competitors stare after introducing folding iPhone
Rumors of Apple developing a foldable iPhone have been circulating for years, but leaks about the product have become more active recently.
Last year, a patent filing suggested that Apple was actively considering a foldable iPhone. Initially, Apple was said to be going with a clamshell design, but later reports suggested that the company might go with a book-style folding design.
Recently, detailed information about the screen of the foldable iPhone has been revealed. Accordingly, the device will have a 5.49-inch external screen and a 7.74-inch internal screen.
According to ETNews, Apple is expected to finalize the selection of component suppliers by the end of April this year, which suggests that the company may soon enter the production stage. Large-scale production of the foldable iPhone may begin in the second half of 2025. Samsung Display is said to be supplying the display for this product, as previously leaked information.
In particular, Apple is said to have solved the problem of the crease on the screen, one of the biggest challenges of foldable smartphones today. A source said: 'Apple decided to eliminate the crease at all costs to differentiate its foldable iPhone from existing models'.
This makes competitors stare even though they have been trying to do it for many years.
While many brands like Samsung, Huawei, Xiaomi, and OPPO have launched foldable smartphones over the years, they have yet to completely overcome the crease problem. If Apple succeeds, it could leapfrog its rivals in solving this most annoying problem.
Additionally, the report said Apple has opted for an inward-folding design similar to a book-folding, with Corning supplying ultra-thin glass (UTG) for the display. MacBook Pro hinge supplier Amphenol may continue to supply the hinge mechanism for the foldable iPhone. Apple is expected to launch its first foldable iPhone in the second half of 2026.
