Apple invited to use iCloud with OS X 10.6 for free

Apple allows free updates from OS X 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard to invite users to switch from MobileMe to iCloud.

According to Computerworld, Apple has allowed free updates from OS X 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard to invite users to switch from the MobileMe service to expire on June 30 to iCloud. The upgrade only works with Macs using Intel processors and does not support older generation PowerPC chips.

Macgasm said that Apple sent an email notifying customers who are using MobileMe about the Snow Leopard update program. They can log into the Apple website with an Apple ID account and sign up for a free Snow Leopard DVD through their MobileMe account.

However, OS X 10.6 or Snow Leopard does not support iCloud. To use this online data synchronization and backup service, users only need to spend an additional $ 29.99 to upgrade the operating system to OS X 10.7 Lion via the Mac App Store.

Current MobileMe customers when switching to iCloud will retain their email, contacts, calendar and bookmarks. If you want to keep the folders stored on MobileMe's iDisk, users will have to download the internal memory of the computer because iCloud does not have equivalent features.

iCloud is a wireless data backup and synchronization service for Mac computers running OS X 10.6 onwards, as well as iPhone and iPad running iOS 5 or later. Each customer will get 5GB free from Apple on iCloud, if they want to have larger storage, they have to spend more money.
