A unique 7000-year-old figurine was discovered in a field

While walking on a field in a village of Podkarpacie, an archaeologist from Wielkopolska saw a piece of a clay figurine about 7,000 years ago describing a man. This is one of the few archaeological evidence found in this period in Poland.

Archaeologist Piotr Alagierski has spent a holiday in the village of Kosina in Podkarpacie. On a Sunday stroll in a cultivated field, he stumbled upon a 7 cm fragment of a small statue of a man made of baked clay. Most of the head, body and part of the hand are clearly shaped, have persisted for many years.

"This is undoubtedly a national monument - one of the most depicting statues of our people in our country. Not only that, similar discoveries of this period here are extremely rare ' - Archaeologist shared in an interview with PAP.

"The style of the statue was created very surprisingly, like the motifs in the same picture in Slovakia and Romania" - the discoverer explained.

The figurines of this period previously discovered in Poland were made more rudely. In general, the genitals - breasts - are also emphasized.

" In this case, the details of the head are clearly composed of visible hair, nose, and chin, in addition to a set of clothes, possibly a cloak. Contrary to some statues Small since this period was previously found in Poland, this statue does not have typical outstanding gender characteristics " .

"In the surrounding fields, I also noticed a large amount of volcanic ceramics and glass rocks, created by the rapid cooling of lava. This material also appeared in the vicinity of Poland. : Ukraine and Slovakia " - Alagierski described in an interview with PAP.

According to him, the place where he found this small statue is a settlement of the first farmers living in the lands of Poland today, meaning that this statue is about 7,000 years old.

Archaeologists intend to begin excavations at the site to explore the context and he confirmed that there were ancient people settling here.

For figurines, intensive chemical analyzes will be conducted as planned. This will allow scientists to determine the origin of the clay used to make figurines. Alagierski said. It is known that this small statue will be given to the Office of Monuments Protection Voivodeship in Rzeszów.
