A series of famous accounts were hacked, TikTok issued an urgent announcement
Hackers took advantage of an undisclosed security vulnerability on the short video platform TikTok to attack the accounts of celebrities and big brands such as CNN, Sony and Paris Hilton.
Hackers attack specified targets through direct messages (DMs) containing malicious code. There is no need to take any other action, users just need to open the message to be infected with malicious code.
To date, the hacked accounts have not shown any unusual activity. However, the risk of spreading malicious code and false information from these accounts is huge.
TikTok confirmed the incident but did not provide further details on the number of accounts affected or the nature of the security breach. The company only said that the number of compromised accounts is 'very small' and that it is actively implementing prevention and remediation measures.
However, attacks on accounts with large numbers of followers are still potentially dangerous, because the speed at which these accounts spread malware or false information will be much faster.
Therefore, TikTok users, especially celebrities and big brands, need to be cautious against this malware attack. To protect their accounts, users should update the TikTok app to the latest version and be cautious when opening messages from strangers.
