4 things users expect from the next generation iPhone SE
While the iPhone 16 attracts most of the attention, Apple also has another new iPhone model in the works. The iPhone SE 4 is expected to be an impressive update to Apple's most affordable iPhone, with a completely new design, USB-C for charging, etc.
Here are 4 things to expect from iPhone SE 4.
New design with larger screen
The biggest change to the iPhone SE 4 will be its design. The current generation iPhone SE has an iPhone 8-style design with large bezels around the 4.7-inch screen and a Home button at the bottom. However, the iPhone SE 4 is expected to bring a modern overhaul similar to the iPhone 14.
According to leaked CAD files, iPhone SE 4 will have a 6.1-inch OLED screen with a notch at the top. We can also expect a new flat bezel design instead of the iPhone SE's current rounded edges.
According to 91mobiles, iPhone SE 4 will have dimensions of 147.7 x 71.5 x 7.7mm. The current iPhone SE measures 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3mm.
Face ID
While the current iPhone SE has a Home button with Touch ID, the next-generation iPhone SE 4 is expected to switch to Face ID.
This change is made possible by the new design of the iPhone SE 4 with a notch to accommodate Face ID components.
Faster performance
The third generation iPhone SE is equipped with the A15 Bionic chip, providing great performance despite the device's low price. iPhone SE 4 will further improve on that performance.
There is no exact information about the type of Apple Silicon chip the iPhone SE will use. However, the likely outcome is that it is powered by an A17 processor.
USB-C
Finally, the iPhone SE 4 will make the switch from Lightning to USB-C for charging. This is in accordance with the latest iPhone 15 series and legal requirements under European Union law.
It's a bit difficult to predict when the iPhone SE 4 will be released. Current expectations are that it will likely launch in 2025. The device has been rumored on and off for the past 18 months. Most recently, a supply chain report said Apple's partners are preparing for a 2025 launch.
