Apple devices to avoid even though they're on sale
As the holiday shopping season rolls around, many people may be eager to add Apple products to their gift lists.
However, there are some products that consumers should consider before deciding to buy because Apple may launch a new version in the near future.
iPhone SE
The iPhone SE is currently the most economical option to experience iPhone features. However, the most recent version, updated by Apple in early 2022, has become outdated with a 4.7-inch screen and Touch ID technology.

According to reports, the next-generation iPhone SE is expected to launch in March 2025 with many significant upgrades. This new iPhone model will have a larger screen, integrated Face ID and a design similar to the iPhone 14, along with a more powerful chip and more RAM to support Apple's artificial intelligence (AI) features.
iPad (10th generation)
Similar to the iPhone SE, the iPad (10th generation) is also an economical choice to enter the tablet world of Apple. This model was introduced in late 2022 with a Touch ID power button and a 10.9-inch screen. By 2024, Apple had reduced the starting price of this product from $449 (VND 11.38 million) to $ 8.85 million (VND 8.85 million).
An updated version of the iPad is expected to launch in the spring of 2025. While the design and basic features will remain unchanged, users can expect improved performance with an A17 chip or newer, along with 8GB of RAM for smoother operation and support for Apple's AI features.
Mac Studio
This is a high-end desktop Mac designed for professionals and Apple enthusiasts, starting at $1,999. The current version is equipped with an M2 Max or M2 Ultra chip and 32GB of storage.
However, a new version with the M4 Max and Ultra chips of the Mac Studio is expected to launch in 2025. If you can't wait, consider the recently updated Mac mini, with higher-end models featuring the M4 Pro chip, Thunderbolt 5 ports, and 16GB of RAM.
HomePod mini
The HomePod mini was released by Apple in 2020 as a cheaper version of the HomePod. While it is still a great option for experiencing Siri and high-quality audio in a compact design, there is currently no official information about its second generation.
If it can wait, the HomePod mini will likely be replaced by a new smart home controller, expected to launch in March 2025. This device will look like a square iPad and focus on smart home control and security.
Apple will also offer accessories for the new device, including a speaker stand that can be placed in a kitchen or nightstand. If you don't want to wait and are willing to pay more for more powerful sound, the larger second-generation HomePod is also a compelling option.
AirPods Pro 2
AirPods Pro 2 are still one of the most popular wireless headphones thanks to active noise cancellation and new hearing health features.
However, if you can wait, 2025 could be when Apple launches its next generation of earbuds. According to reports, the new model will be equipped with additional health tracking features, including heart rate monitoring, along with a new design for both the charging case and the earbuds.
Apple TV 4K
Among the streaming devices available, the Apple TV 4K stands out, but not in a good way. Starting at $129 for the Wi-Fi-only version and $149 for the 128GB version with Ethernet, it's more than double the price of many of its competitors.
The latest version is due for an update in 2022 with an A15 processor, but there's no word on what the next model will be. It's expected to have a faster processor and could be priced more competitively. If you can't wait, you might want to consider a different streaming device.
Of course, these Apple products still work well, but users should consider saving money and waiting for models that are updated with the latest features. No one wants to waste money on an old device that is due for a refresh. |
