For a long time, Firefox's add-on system found that a bad extension could cause problems in your browser.

To fix this, Firefox 57 browser is making a big switch. From this version, Firefox will use the same add-ons as Chrome uses, they cannot modify the browser code, so it is less dangerous.

The old extensions will be called Legacy and will not be supported in Firefox 57. You should check now to see which of your extensions are on the path of 'extinction' to be able to plan ahead.

First, make sure your browser is up to date by clicking on the three-bar menu icon at the top right of Firefox. Click on the help icon, then select About Firefox to check for updates. You must have a browser version of Firefox 55 or later to receive warnings about old extensions.

Once you're done, go to Menu> Add-on and select the Extensions tab on the left. Any extension that appears LEGACY means they do not conform to the new standard. Mozilla has announced that in November, it will propose "appropriate replacement" for the updated updates.

But you can start now.

Hopefully this will not affect your use of Firefox too much. Most large extension providers have no problems when they "modernize" their services, while extensions that have not been updated for a while may be permanently removed after this change. But in the long run, it will make Firefox more stable and secure.
