Ultrathin laptops are cheaper than $ 200 ultrabook
AMD is making chipsets for thin notebooks at a cheaper cost than Intel's ultrabook to $ 200 (~ 4.2 million).
According to a Digitimes article, the thin and light laptop platform that AMD calls utrathin will begin to be launched in June this year.
Intel's current generation ultrabooks cost up to $ 900 (~ 18,900,000) or more, with a few models like the HP Envy 14 Specter priced at $ 1,400 (~ 29,400,000 VND). Intel expects about 70 models of ultrabook will appear this year, and hope that the next generation running Ivy Bridge platform in April will reduce the price of current ultrabook to about $ 700 (~ 14,700,000 VND). and 900 USD (~ 18,900,000 VND), bringing this thin and light laptop into the mainstream.
AMD ultrathin notebooks (Intel has registered the ultrabook brand) will use AMD Trinity chips, which have dual or quad core chips (optional). AMD chips tend to be cheaper than Intel's, so ultrathin laptops seem to be no exception. The starting price for a Trinity laptop will be about $ 500, ~ $ 200 less than the expected average price of an Intel ultrabook.
When it comes to performance, AMD said Trinity chips consume about 17 watts of power, almost like the upcoming ultrabook chips based on Intel Ivy Bridge microarchitecture. Trinity chips are designed to provide the same performance as the A-series AMD (the type of chip currently used in standard-sized laptops), but the power consumption is only half that.
According to Digitimes, there will not be many AMD ultrathin laptops like Intel ultrabook. Only about 20 models are expected to appear this year and brands like HP, Acer and Asus will have the first machines.
