This new feature can help increase gaming performance of AMD chips by 21%

If you're an avid gamer and own one of AMD's latest processors, there's good news for you.

With the release of the Ryzen 9000 series, AMD added a feature called Optimized Performance Profile (OPP), allowing users to easily overclock RAM.

However that is not all. If you have a Ryzen 9000 series CPU, such as the Ryzen 7 9700X, and an MSI motherboard, the new BIOS update can help improve your CPU's gaming performance by up to 21%. This is due to MSI's own feature set, which now includes MSI Memory Try It and High-Efficiency Mode.

MSI has shared some benchmark results that highlight the improvements users can get from each feature, as well as the differences when used in combination. For example, using AMD OPP and MSI High-Efficiency Mode simultaneously, or by combining two MSI options into one overclocking tool. In the test evaluation, MSI used a PC with a Ryzen 7 9700X CPU, an MSI MAG X670E Tomahawk Wi-Fi motherboard, and two different types of RAM: Galax's HOF Pro DDR5-7200 and Fury Beast DDR5-6000 from Kingston.

Start with AMD OPP - can only be used with memory modules with SK Hynix chips. Through OPP, MSI has successfully overclocked the memory to DDR5-6000 CL30-38-38-96 configuration and compared it with the default DDR5-4800 configuration. This delivered significant performance improvements, reducing latency by 19% compared to the default configuration; At the same time, it is about 5% better than when using AMD EXPO. Gaming performance increases depending on the specific game, with increases ranging from 2% to 13% at 1080p.

Next, MSI combines AMD OPP with High-Efficiency Mode, with four setup options available: Tightest, Tighter, Balance and Relax. MSI paired OPP with a second mode, Tighter, and found that the combination reduced latency by an additional 8% compared to using OPP alone. Gaming benefits also range from 2% to 8% improvement depending on the game.

Switch to Memory Try It. This feature supports memory modules from more vendors, including Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron. MSI says Memory Try It helps increase clock speeds and tighter timing. To demonstrate, MSI used the DDR50-600 CL28-35-35-60 setup and paired it with the Tighter option of High-Efficiency Mode.

The results look pretty cool. This combo delivers a performance increase of up to 10% compared to using AMD OPP alone, a 13% increase compared to using EXPO, and finally a 21% increase in 1080p gaming performance compared to a non-overclocked setup.

AMD's OPP is fine, but if you have an MSI motherboard, download the latest BIOS update to try it out. However, it should also be noted that overclocking RAM can cause system instability, so be cautious and don't do it all at once.
