PowerEgg X Wizard : This egg is one of the most powerful drones
PowerVision, a company well known for diving robots, now sells two egg-shaped drone versions of the PowerEgg X series. The first version is only equipped with basic features, while the second will have more accessories. Additional accessories, including a spare battery and a waterproof case.
Specifically:
- PowerEgg X Explorer is the version that comes with a battery, an additional set of propellers, a remote control, a wristband for camera mode, a tripod head, and a set of cases for you to wear. traveling. The total cost for this edition is 900 USD.
- PowerEgg X Wizard is the version that comes with 2 batteries, 2 additional propellers, 1 drone foot pouch, and 1 water-resistant built-in float case designed to allow the drone to land on the water. The total cost for this edition is 1,250 USD .
PowerEgg X can be used in two ways: without a propeller, it works like a handheld video camera. In camera mode, this egg weighs 1.15 pounds and the battery lasts about 3.5 hours. In drone mode (with attached propeller), the egg weighs 1.9 pounds and the battery lasts up to 30 minutes. Each battery has a capacity of 3,800mAh. The charger is quite large, with 2 USB ports to charge the phone and the remote control at the same time, with a capacity of 50W. The remote has its own 3,500mAh battery that can be charged via the microUSB port.
Inside, the drone is equipped with a 5-core CPU, a 1-core GPU, a 4-core image processor, and a 2-core neural network engine (which handles the device's AI functions). In terms of storage capacity, PowerEgg X has 6GB of internal memory with a microSD card slot up to 128GB, hidden under the battery.
To connect the drone to your phone, you need to install the Vision + 2 app from the App Store. If you use Android, you must download the APK file from the PowerVision website and install it yourself. There is a problem with this APK file: it is only in Chinese and English.
Camera mode
Officially called AI Camera Mode, PowerEgg X's video camera mode allows you to record super-smooth videos when placed on the ground. It doesn't have the same high video quality as high-end smartphones, but none has a 3-axis stabilizer with the ability to follow a moving object!
To use PowerEgg X in camera mode, you only need to connect the wrist strap to the egg, turn it on with a light press and a hold, and connect your phone to the Wi-Fi network provided by the egg out (the password is 12345678). PowerEgg X can record 4K videos at 60fps and take photos at 12MP resolution.
In fact, 1.15 pounds is quite heavy for a handheld camera, especially if you're holding the phone in the other hand to view drone images captured in real time (PowerEgg X doesn't have a built-in screen. well suited). However, the phone app allows you to control the camera yourself, so you can place the drone on a flat surface or tripod and control it remotely. You can also leave the smart tracking system to work on its own.
The drone doesn't come with a microphone, but it comes with an option called SyncVoice, which allows recording audio from your phone and syncing it with video files in real time. It also works with headphones and any kind of microphone connected to your phone, and it can even be used while you're flying. However, you should not do that, because the sound will sometimes be interrupted if the signal is weak or there is radio interference.
When using PowerEgg X as a handheld camera, the anti-vibration unit has 3 operating modes. FPV mode will follow your movement closely without locking any axis. Lock mode will allow you to lock 2 or 3 axes. Finally, the follow mode detects movement and unlocks the axes that handle left-to-right movement as well as up and down. Note that the spindle will be locked.
The auto-layout feature is the best in camera mode. It allows you to select an object and focus on its focus. The drone uses an automatic learning algorithm to recognize faces, but it can also maintain focus points on cars or other moving objects. Once it detects something (which can take a long time, depending on the light), it won't miss it whether you move the drone away or pass by other objects. However, the drone can get confused and lose focus if there are too many objects or people in the frame.
Drone mode
When you attach the propellers, the PowerEgg X will become bigger and heavier than the drones that DJI sells for the same price on the market. The good news is that its battery life in drone mode will be up to 30 minutes, better than the Mavic Air. Besides, it can reach speeds of 40mph and can withstand winds with speeds up to 23mph. The flying drone is surprisingly stable considering its egg-like shape.
PowerEgg X has 2 sensors on the front and 2 sensors on the bottom. It can detect obstacles up to 65 feet away, allowing the drone itself to find it a safe area before landing. However, the obstacle detection sensor is very noisy and can drive you crazy because it keeps on "beeping, beeping".
4K video detail is excellent, but dynamic range, color reliability and white balance are inconsistent, depending on the light. There are a number of settings you can fine-tune in the app, but normally you don't have much time to calibrate details when you're driving a drone!
The remote control with the drone is also quite bulky and heavy, but it is rain resistant and has an ergonomic design. The controller is equipped with 3 cables (lightning, microUSB, and USB-C) and a customizable button. The control signal can fly as far as 3.7 miles, and the image from the drone is transmitted in real time in Full HD resolution. There is one downside: if you use a large phone and attach a case, it may not fit into the holder on the remote.
PowerEgg X uses a GPS / GLONASS signal to return to the starting point when the battery runs out or loses signal. You can take advantage of this feature and use it the opposite way. There is a function called "Point of Interest" that allows you to place a location on the map, drones will fly in and take a few turns around to film.
The QuickShot feature will set the camera's focus point on a target and record a short clip while on a predetermined flight. It has flight modes similar to DJI's drones: fading away, sky rocketing, surrounding, spiral, and ellipse. The AI Track mode, also known as the smart tracking mode, is much more interesting and works very well for human, bicycle and car targets. You can ask the drone to follow a moving target from behind or fly in parallel with the target, and you can lock the camera into the target. Thanks to that, you can record targets from a fixed point or set arbitrary movements with the remote control (with this feature, you can easily record more interesting and creative content. usually, common, normal).
Waterproof mode
The Wizard package includes a transparent plastic case to turn PowerEgg X into a rain-resistant drone. Combined with wind resistance, the drone can fly even in heavy rain, according to the manufacturer.
In addition to the waterproof case, the Wizard version also includes a pair of floats that attach to the drone's legs, allowing you to control the drone on the water and even surf on the water without fear - even if surfing. This country requires you to use the joystick. Very cool, but the waterproof mode will increase the volume of PowerEgg X, reducing its battery life. The application detects the increased volume and automatically limits the drone's flight speed as well as deactivates the intelligent flight features.
It should be noted that the waterproof case works well in many environments that the drone flies through, but the more wet the case, the more water vapor condenses in front of the camera. On the other hand, the drone's legs are quite fragile, so be careful when using it.
Photos and selfies
The PowerEgg X camera has a 12MP sensor and 27mm f / 1.8 lens with a 170-degree field of view. The photo above is not good quality, but the problem is that when you hold the drone in your hand, it will be a little difficult to focus at close range, even though that distance is just over 3 feet a bit.
In camera mode, PowerEgg can detect some gestures. You can enable smart tracking with the palm of your hand - this is the mode that maintains the focus point on a person who has just raised their hand. To take a selfie for 3 seconds, just place two fingers in a "V" shape. When the hand becomes "OK", the drone will take a group photo after 3 seconds.
While there are a few dedicated buttons for this on the remote control, changing from shooting mode to movie mode on the fly may not be very smooth, especially if you only have one battery. . The solution here is that if it is flexible and does not require too much, you can shoot 4K video and take photos from that video. With the exception of moderate detail and contrast, photos taken from videos can be used to post to Instagram without a problem.
Time Lapse and Slow Motion
Finally, PowerEgg X can spin Time Lapse (from the air or from a flat surface) in 3, 5, 7, 10, 15, 30 or 60 seconds. The drone also records video in slow motion with a frame rate of 120fps, but the image will lose lots of detail.
In general, PowerEgg X encountered a lot of problems when it was launched: the image lost its signal continuously, the drone could not recognize any objects in the frame, the video quality was quite poor, the drone disconnected itself in the past. The firmware update program and then did not work as intended. However, if this is the case, you can manually reinstall the firmware using the microSD card. And at the present time, after 3-4 updates, the experience with PowerEgg X has been significantly improved. You can forget about DJI!
