In 2011, Andrés Ruzo, a geologist at Southern Methodist University in the United States, wrapped himself in the forest to search for the legendary river of boiling water, still spoken by indigenous people. The river is called Shanay-timpishka , which in the native language means " boiled by the sun ." Shanay-timpishka is about 6km long, 6m deep, about 25m wide. The sinuses and lungs also feel burning.

The highest temperature measured in this river section is 100 degrees Celsius, while the super hot coffee cup we still drink is only about 55 degrees. If you dip your hand in the water in just a few seconds, you may have a level 2 or 3 burn.
