System error causes users of old computers to receive invitations to update Windows 11
Recently, Microsoft has released the Windows 11 build 22621 update for Windows Insiders to join the Release Preview Channel. This is an important stepping stone for the release of Windows 11 22H2 later this year.
However, the new update of Windows 11 causes a rather funny problem. Many users report that their old computers with unsupported hardware have also received invitations to update to Windows 11.
The screenshot by Reddit user AceRimmer412 above shows that an unsupported Windows 10 PC with Core i5-7200U still receives an invitation to upgrade to Windows 11 22H2.
However, this is not a signal that Microsoft is willing to provide Windows 11 for computers with old hardware. Everything is simply Microsoft's system error.
In fact, at the launch of Windows 11, the minimum hardware limit that Microsoft offered caused a lot of controversy. Microsoft's new operating system only supports new chips released in the past few years with the ability to support TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot. The reason that Microsoft gives is that the limit will help ensure the security of Windows 11.
The minimum hardware configuration of Windows 11 includes:
- CPU clocked at 1 GHz or faster with two or more cores on a 64-bit compatible processor or System on a Chip (SoC)
- RAM 4GB or more
- 64GB or more free hard drive space
- DirectX 12 or later compatible graphics card with WWDC 2.0 . driver
- System Firmware: UEFI, featuring Secure Boot
- Supports Trusted Platform Mudule (TPM) version 2.0
- 9 inch or higher screen with HD resolution (720p) or higher
Computers with unsupported hardware that still intentionally update Windows 11 (somehow) will not receive updates, including security updates, Patch Tuesday, and feature updates. Therefore, if you miss updating to Windows 11, within 10 days you will have to return to Windows 10. If it is more than 10 days when you want to return to Windows 10, you will have to reinstall from the beginning.
