OpenAI may soon run out of money because of AI training
Skyrocketing operating costs could cause OpenAI to lose $5 billion in 2024, leading to the risk of the company running out of money within 12 months.
Previously, according to data from research company Tracxn, OpenAI has raised more than 11 billion USD after 7 funding rounds. Most recently in April, the company successfully called for an undisclosed amount of capital from the ARK Investment Management fund.
Currently, OpenAI has not commented on the above information.
From the beginning of 2023, the estimated amount of money needed to operate ChatGPT every day is up to 700,000 USD due to operating on an expensive server system. However, this number is calculated based on the old GPT-3, while new models require more money and the number of user queries is also higher.
On July 18, OpenAI introduced the GPT-4o mini, which it touted as "the most capable and cost-effective small model available today". This is one of the company's efforts to pioneer multimodality, or the ability to deliver multiple types of AI-generated media within one tool such as text, images, audio and video.
According to Reuters, OpenAI is moving towards the general AI (AGI) model by building an AI with advanced reasoning capabilities, surpassing the capabilities of GPT-4o. The project is internally named "Strawberry".
In addition to financial issues, OpenAI also faces management challenges when it falls into the sights of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) due to allegations of hidden investment agreements. illegal.
