Security firm Fortinet has just warned of a toxic worm that attacks SymbianOS phones, but Nokia is an example.
The worm is called SymbOS / Beselo.A! This worm spreads over mobile networks, capable of attacking most Symbian S60 devices, such as Nokia phones: 6600, 6630, 6680, 7610, N70 and N72.
According to Fortinet, the worm is hidden as a multimedia file (MMS) with names like Beauty.jpg, Sex.mp3 orLove.rm. Fortinet's warning said users were often tricked into installing this type of file without knowing they were malicious programs.
Unlike the Microsoft Windows platform, SymbianOS file types are based on content, not their extensions. Therefore users will be more easily fooled.
After infecting the phone, the worm will collect phone numbers in the contact list, and rely on it to send MMS messages with virus functionality. In addition, it is also possible to replicate and distribute via mobile network.
