Microsoft has finalized the end of support for Office 2016 and 2019 applications and servers
Microsoft has finally officially announced the planned end of support (EOS) dates for the Office 2016 and Office 2019 application ecosystems, as well as related servers. Accordingly, all of these applications will no longer be supported after October 14, 2025.
In a blog post, Microsoft said:
After October 14, 2025, Microsoft will no longer provide security fixes, patches, or technical support for Office 2016 and Office 2019. Continued use of end-of-support products can expose your organization to potential security threats, reduced productivity, and a variety of system compatibility issues.
Microsoft has also listed a specific list of Office 2016 and 2019 applications, along with server products that will be affected by this decision, including:
- Access 2016
- Access 2019
- Excel 2016

Microsoft recommends that organizations that have these applications installed subscribe to a Microsoft 365 E3 cloud-based subscription. In cases where the PC systems of organizations and businesses are not connected to the internet and are not ready to switch to Microsoft 365, they can consider the Office Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) solution. However, the EOS date for Office LTSC 2021 is October 13, 2026, which is not too long away, and users will only receive additional external support for less than a year.
Microsoft has revealed plans to release a preview of Office LTSC 2024 for businesses and organizations at the end of April. The company plans to provide 5 years of support for standalone Office 2024 applications. The version for individual users will be released later this fall.
