Trojan World of Warcraft is raging in Asia

The password stealing software of popular online games like WoW accounted for 13% of the total malware detected in June last.

According to security firm Fortinet, the Trojan has a spread and spread across Asia, but China and Taiwan are the two most heavily affected areas.

Specifically, China suffered 36.5% of online game Trojan attacks in June. Taiwan ranked second with 31.1%, followed by Turkey (15.4%) and the United States. with 7.4%.

Also according to Fortinet experts, the number of malware attacks " W32 / OnlineGames! Tr " caused a special increase in the second quarter of 2008.

This program specializes in stealing passwords and online gamer account information, then sending them to the remote server.

First discovered in April 2007, " W32 / Online Game! Tr " accounted for more than 7.5% of the attacks in June.

In addition to WoW, this trojan also tries to collect login information from YouXiChaYuan and Perfect World, two online titles that are also popular in China and Asia.

However, Fortinet does not disclose how the PC is infected with malware. Just know that once activated, W32 will implicitly run every time Windows starts, and insert malicious code into the explorer.exe process.

Then it will silently collect passwords and information that hackers care about from victim PC.

" As the online game market is very popular, it is no surprise that hackers will strengthen bombarding this target in the near future, " Fortinet said.
