Asustek executives said on April 21 that the company will launch an Eee PC offering Intel Atom processor technology platform on the occasion of the 2008 Computex Exhibition to be held in Taiwan in June.
Atom is the exclusive name for Intel's Diamondville processor series. This product is specifically designed for low-cost notebooks, ultra-portable PC (UMPC) as well as other small devices designed for Internet connection. Atom has a very small design, only about 25 square millimeters, can operate at a voltage of 0.6-2.5 watts and has a relatively low cost.
' Eee PC has opened up a new product segment ,' said Sean Maloney, Intel's executive vice president. ' There are also about 25 low-priced laptop products in Intel's Atom platform that are being developed by manufacturers and will be launched soon .'
These include manufacturers such as Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS) of Taiwan, Acer, Micro-Star or Gigabyte Technology .
