How to disable Copilot on Microsoft Edge in Windows 11

Many users want to hide the Copilot icon on the Microsoft Edge toolbar to create a cleaner browser interface, avoid accidental clicks, or limit sending data to AI services when unnecessary.

In this article, you will be guided on how to turn off or hide Copilot on Microsoft Edge using various simple and easy-to-understand methods.

1. Turn off the Copilot toolbar icon in Edge.

Go to Settings in your Edge browser , then click on the Copilot and AI section .

Look to the right in the Copilot section of Edge, and below that, turn off the "Show Copilot button in toolbar" setting .

As a result, you will no longer see the Copilot icon displayed in the Edge browser toolbar.

2. Disable Copilot in Edge using Group Policy

This method applies to Windows 11 Pro, Enterprise, and Education versions.

Step 1:

Open the Run dialog box and then type gpedit.msc to access it. In the new interface, navigate to the following path:

User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Copilot

Step 2:

Look to the right and click on the "Turn off Windows Copilot" setting to adjust it.

Here, check the Enabled box to disable Copilot in the Edge browser. Finally, run the command `gpupdate /force` to update the policy.

3. Disable Copilot in Edge using Registry Editor

Step 1:

Enter the keyword regedit.exe into the Run dialog box and then proceed to access it. Continue by following the path below.

HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwarePoliciesMicrosoftWindows

Then you click on the WindowsCopilot key .

Step 2:

Look to the right, right-click on the WindowsCopilot key , select New , click on DWORD (32-bit) Value , and name this new value TurnOffWindowsCopilot .

You click on 1 to disable Copilot on Edge . Finally, restart your browser to apply the changes.

Disable Copilot for all users.

If you want to disable Copilot for all users on the computer, follow this path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindows

Then, repeat the same steps as above.
