How to Craft a Beacon in Minecraft
Manufacturing beacons
Know the shape of the beacon. A beacon is a square at least 3x3 in size, one block high, usually made of an iron block (or a gold block, diamond and/or emerald is fine) with a beacon block placed on top. If you want to improve the energy and range of the beacon, you need to build a square base of 5x5, 7x7 and 9x9 for each respective power level.
Crafting a beacon can be a tedious task, as you need at least 81 iron ingots to craft the base.
Collect necessary ingredients. To craft a beacon, you need the following items:
At least 81 iron ore - Mine lots of iron ore—gray stone with orange spots—with a stone pickaxe or more. You can use emeralds, gold, or diamonds, but these ores are much rarer than iron and have no special effects on beacons.
Three blocks of obsidian - Obsidian is formed by letting water flow into lava from above. You can find it deep in the cave. You need a diamond pickaxe to mine obsidian.
Five blocks of sand - You will use sand to create glass.
Nether Star - Kill the Wither and pick up the dropped star. Withers appear extremely rarely and are very difficult to kill for low level players, so remember to prepare carefully.
Fuel - Wood planks or coal can both be used. You will need this for the furnace when melting glass and iron bars.
Smelting iron ore. Open the furnace, place all 81 iron ores in the upper slot, then place the fuel source in the lower slot. Once all 81 ores have been smelted, you can move them back to your inventory.
In Minecraft PE, tap the upper tile, tap the iron ore icon, tap the lower tile, then tap fuel.
In the console version, you need to select iron ore, press Y or triangle , select fuel, then press Y or triangle again.
Melting glass. Place the sand block in the furnace, refill with fuel if necessary, then get five glass blocks fired.
Open the crafting table. Right-click on the crafting table (PC), tap the crafting table (in PE version), or face the crafting table and press the left Trigger button.
Creates iron blocks. Place nine iron bars into each slot in the frame, then click on the nine iron blocks and move it to the inventory.
In Minecraft PE, you simply tap the gray iron block to select it, then tap the 1 x on the right side of the screen nine times.
On consoles, scroll to the far right tab, select the lava block, scroll down until you see the iron block, press A ( on Xbox) or X (on PlayStation) nine times.
Craft beacon blocks. Reopen the crafting table if necessary, place an obsidian block in each bottom space, place a Nether Star in the middle space, place a crystal in each remaining space. Move the newly crafted beacon block to your inventory. Now you can create a beacon.
In Minecraft PE, you just tap the beacon icon, then tap 1 x .
On the console, search for the beacon tab, select beacon, and press A or X .
Build a beacon tower
Find a place to build a beacon. You need flat ground; ideally when the beacon is close to your home.
Place the iron blocks on the ground. Place down three rows of three blocks each to create a 3x3 base for a total of nine blocks.
Place beacon block. Select the beacon block, then select the iron block in the middle. The beacon will be lit almost immediately.
Consider adding more layers to the block. If you want to increase the beacon's power, you can add a 25-block 5x5 base directly below the 3x3 base.
You can add a 49-block 7x7 base under the 5x5 base, and you can add an 81-block 9x9 base under the 7x7 base.
You cannot create a background larger than 9x9 blocks for a beacon.
Change the effect of the beacon
Search for minerals that can change effects. To change the effect of a beacon, you need at least one of the following:
Iron bar
Gold bar
Emerald
Diamond
Select beacon. Right-click on the beacon (or tap on it, or press the Trigger button on the left side of the controller while facing it) to open the beacon.
Choose effects. Select the effect you want to receive from the beacon. You have two choices:
Speed - Obtained by selecting the claw icon on the left side of the window. This effect helps you run faster.
Fast Digging - Obtained by selecting the pickaxe icon on the left side of the window. This effect helps you dig faster.
The more layers a beacon tower has, the more effects you can absorb.
Adding minerals may change the effect. Click and drag the mineral into the empty box at the bottom of the beacon window.
In Minecraft PE, tap the mineral at the top left of the screen.
On handheld consoles, you just need to select a mineral and press Y or triangle .
Select traces. This green tick is at the bottom of the beacon window. This is the step to attach the selected effect to the beacon.
