How to connect the DSL modem to the D-Link router
You can connect the DSL modem to the D-Link router using an Ethernet cable, then enter the DSL username and password.
However, most DSL modems have a built-in router and this configuration will prevent you from doing some activities such as online gaming, file sharing and webcam communication over the Internet.
To properly connect the device, first configure the modem in Bridge mode, then configure the router with DSL information, and finally, connect the modem and router to provide Internet access to computers on the network.
Modem configuration
Step 1:
Turn off the DSL source and computer. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the modem and the other end to the Ethernet port on the computer. Power on the modem and then power on the computer.

Launch the web browser on the computer. Enter the DSL modem interface address into the browser address bar. For example, enter 192.168.1.254 and press Enter

Review the modem documentation if you are unsure of the correct address to access its console.
Step 3:
Click menu option to configure modem or connection. Choose the option of changing the modem to a bridge, such as "Bridge", "Bridge Mode", "Bridge PPPoE", "Bridged Ethernet", "Modem Only" or something similar. Click the option to save and restart the modem.
Configure the D-Link router
Step 1:
Power off the computer and the D-Link router. Unplug the Ethernet cable from the modem's port and plug it into one of the middle Ethernet ports on the router. Power on the router and then on the computer.
Step 2:
Open a web browser, click in the address bar, enter http://192.168.0.1 and click Enter
to access the console of the router.
Step 3:
Enter admin for the username, leave the password field blank and click OK to log in to the router. Click the Run Wizard button on the first screen.
Log into the D-Link routerYou can refer to the default user name and password for some D-Link router models in: List of default passwords for D-Link routers.
Step 4:
Follow the instructions and prompts from the wizard to set passwords on the router, time zone, and other options. Select PPPoE as the Internet connection type and select Dynamic PPPoE. Enter the DSL username and password, then click Save and Restart when done.
Device connection
Step 1:
Turn off the computer, modem and router. Remove Ethernet cable from router and computer. Insert one end of the Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on the back of the modem.
Step 2:
Check the ports on the back of the router. Locate the port labeled "WAN" or "Internet" in a different color or away from other Ethernet ports. Insert the other end of the Ethernet cable into the WAN port.
Step 3:
Turn on the modem power and wait a minute. Turn on the power to the router and wait a minute. Power on the computer and connect it to the router with an Ethernet or wireless connection. Check to make sure you have access to the Internet.
