Fortnite on iPhone and iPad uses a touch HUD for movement, camera control, combat, inventory and—when the selected mode allows it—building. Button positions can differ because the HUD is customizable and game updates can change the layout, but the core controls below remain useful.
How to install Fortnite on iPhone or iPad
Epic's current support page says Fortnite can be downloaded from the App Store in supported regions. Epic also offers its own mobile store in certain regions, while cloud streaming is another option where supported. Availability and device requirements can change, so start with Epic's official iOS and iPadOS installation guide rather than an unofficial installer.
Before downloading, compare the device with Epic's current Fortnite iOS requirements. Update iOS or iPadOS, leave enough free storage and sign in with the Epic account that holds your cross-platform progress.
Move your character
Drag the virtual joystick in the lower-left area to walk or run. Small movements produce finer positioning; dragging farther from the center moves decisively. Keep the left thumb on movement while the right thumb controls the camera.

Crouch
Tap the crouch button to lower the character. Crouching reduces your profile and can help you stay behind low cover, but it does not make the character invisible. Tap again or use the relevant movement control to stand.

Jump and mantle
Use the jump button to clear small obstacles or change elevation. Depending on the current game mechanics and settings, moving toward a suitable ledge may also allow mantling. Avoid repeated unnecessary jumps during a fight because the movement can make aim harder.

Pick up and interact with items
Approach weapons, ammunition, chests or other interactive objects and use the action prompt. Some nearby items may be collected automatically according to your settings, while containers and doors require an explicit interaction.

Switch weapons and items
The quickbar displays the weapons and consumables currently assigned to each slot. Tap a slot to equip it. Arrange the bar consistently—for example, close-range weapon, medium-range weapon, utility and healing—so the required item is easier to find under pressure.

Look around and aim
Drag across an open area on the right side of the screen to rotate the camera. Do not begin the gesture on another button. If the view feels too slow or too sensitive, adjust touch sensitivity in Fortnite's settings and test it before entering a competitive match.

Fire or use the equipped item
Use the fire control to shoot the equipped weapon or activate the selected item. Fortnite can offer more than one fire button in a touch layout, so place the controls where the fingers can reach them without blocking the center of the screen.

Aim down sights
Tap the aim control to use a weapon's sights or scope. Aiming down sights improves precision but narrows awareness and may reduce movement speed. Use hip fire at very close range when appropriate, and use sights for more deliberate shots.

Reload
The reload button appears when the equipped weapon can accept more ammunition. Reload behind cover and check the magazine before starting another fight; an automatic reload at the wrong moment leaves the player unable to fire.

Open and organize the inventory
Open the inventory to inspect weapons, ammunition, resources and consumables. Use it in a safe position, because the match continues while the inventory is open. Drop redundant items and keep the quickbar ordered instead of carrying several weapons that serve the same range.

Open the build menu
In a build-enabled mode, switch from combat controls to the build menu. Zero Build modes do not provide the normal structure-building system, so the button may be absent there.

Place a structure
Select a wall, floor, ramp or roof piece, choose the available material and position the preview. Use the placement control to confirm. Practice switching between a weapon and a build piece until the transition is comfortable.

Improve the touch layout
- Move important combat buttons within easy reach of each thumb.
- Keep the central aiming area clear of large controls.
- Increase a button's size before adding several duplicate controls.
- Test camera, aim and scope sensitivity separately.
- Save a consistent quickbar order so weapon changes become automatic.
