Google released the first laptop
Google has just launched its first laptop product, running Chrome OS. This can be seen as a new challenge that this giant 'search' creates, aimed at Microsoft's monopoly with the Windows operating system .
According to the Wall Street Journal , Chrome OS, Google's first laptop used was developed based on its Chrome web browser. These laptops are primarily designed to run applications on the Web, because Google expects to push software development work away from applications that are inherently tied to operating systems like Windows.
Because based on Web applications, Google's laptop starts only takes a few seconds. However, this type of laptop will be limited when users are not connected to the network. " What we want to bring to the Web is closely related ," said Google's Vice President Sundar Pichai, who heads the Chrome development team, at the December 7 launch in San Francisco.
Initially, Google's first computers will be manufactured by Acer and Samsung Electronics. Pichai said, according to the plan, by mid-2011, these machines will be available in the market. However, Google has not released any information about the price of the product. According to Mr. Pichai, other manufacturers will also "launch" more devices running Google's Chrome operating system.
Initially, computers running Google's Chrome operating system will be released later this year. But due to the completion of this operating system took longer than expected, Google had to back up the time of "racking up" of the first computers to the middle of next year. Google said it will hold an experimental program, in which laptops running Chrome software will be distributed to a number of trial users.
The Wall Street Journal commented, looking at the first laptops with Google's Chrome operating system are very similar to cheap netbooks. To ensure these computers are always connected to the network, Google will partner with US Verizon to provide free wireless Internet connections with a capacity of 100 megabytes per month for 2 years. For a more robust service package, customers have to spend at least $ 9.99 / month.
Similar to the Android operating system for smart mobile phones, Google licensed Chrome computer operating system for hardware manufacturers for free. Meanwhile, Microsoft is always charging for Windows computer manufacturers.
Along with the introduction of the first Chrome-based laptops, Google also launched an online Chrome app market, including products from app developers. In particular, some applications are provided free of charge, others users have to pay.
Chrome OS also does not bring direct revenue to Google, but through Chrome, Google promotes its other services, especially online applications such as Google Docs or Google Maps. Vice President Pichai also said that he is considering selling Chrome OS directly to companies and has a fee.
Before the introduction of a Chrome-based computer, Google challenged Microsoft in many other areas of the software industry, including products like Gmail or Google Docs.
