Google Drive closed, replaced with Backup and Sync

Google's online repository - Google Drive and Google Photos - is preparing to say goodbye. On the official post from the blog, Google announced since December 11, both online file hosting applications will officially not be supported anymore. Shortly thereafter (in March), Google will completely remove these applications.

This move is the result of Google's desire to incorporate all of its current cloud storage into a single application - what they wanted to do since July. That application will become Google Backup and Sync with normal users. G Suite users or business customers will have access to Drive File Stream, which is officially launched on September 26.

If you haven't heard about Backup and Sync, don't worry. The way it works is quite similar to Google Drive. You just need to upload your data or images to the cloud and sync them with your desktop application easily.

While Drive File Stream is slightly different. It retains most of Backup and Sync's core features (storage and synchronization), but there are many new features for businesses.

For example, File Stream users can stream files on demand, making it easy for multiple users to access with Team Drives (the relevant administrator setting can be changed) and synchronizing each file according to their needs (Backup and Sync only allows full folder synchronization).

If you are using Drive then it's time to transfer data to Backup and Sync. If you are afraid to forget, you don't need to worry because since October, the desktop application will periodically display a message to let users know that Drive is about to be abandoned.
