Lilium flying cars run completely on electricity.

With part of the funding from the European Space Agency (ESA), Lilium Aviation has designed a type of civilian jet that has two-seat electrical operation based on landing technology. Vertical is currently being used for many military aircraft like the Harrier Jump Jet.

The complete prototype of the aircraft, called the Lilium Eagle, has a maximum speed of 186 mph, equivalent to nearly 300 km / h and can fly many miles of range for a full charge. In April 2017, the car was first taken off from an airport on the outskirts of Munich, Germany. This test flight was unmanned but still achieved impressive performance.

Eagle is equipped with a fully electric motor, which means the vehicle does not exhaust air and has low noise.

The thrust of the flying car comes from three electric jet engines. Each motor provides a capacity for a set of separate propellers with more than a dozen small wings to help the vehicle fly from vertical to horizontal. When the car takes off and lands, the small propeller will point straight down.

Like a conventional jet, the propeller gradually changes to a horizontal position when moving in the air. At that time, Eagle only used 1/10 energy compared to takeoff.

In the future, Lilium Aviation wants to build a five-seater version of Lilium Eagle. Daniel Wiegand, co-founder and president of Lilium Aviation, said the five-seater Lilium Eagle will be able to travel at 300 km / h, fully charged after just an hour. At that time, the flight from Manhattan to John F. Kennedy Airport was only 5 minutes long and the cost was cheaper than taking a lot of taxis.
