Done, Samsung and LG will be the makers of OLED displays for the iPhone
Apple will have a second OLED display supplier.
LD Display has started producing OLED displays for Apple iPhone phones and the first batch will be ready for the next generation launch in September.
The move will help Apple reduce dependence on Samsung - which is the exclusive supplier for organic light-emitting diode screens for iPhone X and is still the exclusive screen partner for the technology giant. iPhone 2018.
Bloomberg reported that LG Display will produce around 2 to 4 million OLED screens but the number will increase in the next few months. It is likely that LG will provide OLED screens for one of the two OLED iPhone models launched this year, while Samsung is still the exclusive supplier for other products.
OLED screens on iPhone X are said to be the most expensive parts and Apple cannot negotiate prices because only Samsung is the supplier. But when LG helped them achieve the necessary supply, Apple did not necessarily cancel the contract with Samsung, but could bring better prices for the upcoming iPhone.
Apple will lessen Samsung's monopoly pressure
'Having the second supplier for OLED screens is very important because it will help Apple regardless of Samsung, currently the only supplier. Many suppliers mean more quantity and lower prices, 'said Jerry Kang, an analyst at IHS Markit.
Although LG started producing OLED displays does not mean they will be used on the iPhone. They need to meet two more conditions and one of them will be available in July. On the other hand, it is likely that LG will play a big role in providing OLED screens for iPhone 2019.
It is expected that Apple will have a new iPhone in September, of which two will use OLED screens and the third in the middle will use LCD screens.
