Apple will sell 12-14 million iPad 2 in the third quarter
Responding to the eagerness of users to the iPad 2, in the first half of this year, Apple shipped only a limited number of these tablets.
In the first quarter, the company expects to sell about 6.2 million units, but only 4.69 million. The number of tablets actually shipped in the second quarter ranged from 7-9 million units. This is not entirely due to the declining market demand but by component suppliers that do not meet Apple's order volume. In an effort to resolve this problem between the parties, the number of tablets in the third quarter is expected to be much higher.
Apple's COO Tim Cook (pictured below) said the main reason for the shortage is due to congestion at the production stage. According to leaked and unconfirmed information, the type of missing components is screen panels manufactured by LG. Mr. Cook also said that the company had " sold out all of its iPad 2s ".
With Asian suppliers addressing the shortage of parts, Apple is continuing to order more parts for its production in the third quarter of this year. The number of iPad 2 will ship during this period is expected to range from 12 to 14 million units.
