Apple is developing its smallest computer ever
Recently, it was reported that Apple is planning to launch a new Mac mini model by the end of 2024, which is expected to have a major change in overall design.
Bloomberg reported through anonymous sources that the new Mac mini launched this year will be the smallest computer model Apple has ever developed. The report claims that the overall size of the device will be close to the company's Apple TV streaming box.
Not much detailed information about the overall design of the product has been revealed. However, Bloomberg's report reveals that the chassis could be about taller than the current Mac mini model, which is 1.4 inches tall. The article also confirms that the new model will retain the same monolithic aluminum shell as its predecessors.
If nothing changes, the new Mac mini model will have an HDMI port, power port and at least three USB-C ports on the back. Inside, Apple is expected to adopt a new M4 processor manufactured by the company to handle the device's processing power. The chip was first announced in May, and has been put to use inside the new iPad Pro tablet. This is in line with some previous rumors claiming that Apple is aiming for the Mac mini to essentially be an 'iPad Pro in a small box'.
Bloomberg adds that the new Mac mini 2024 will come in two versions. One version uses the same M4 chip as in the iPad Pro. The remaining version will use the yet-to-be-announced more powerful M4 variant, supporting more RAM and a faster GPU.
Bloomberg's report ends with the statement that the Mac mini with the standard M4 chip will begin shipping from the company's suppliers in August for a launch sometime this year. The version with the more advanced M4 chip will launch after the first model.
