According to the latest information from the partners, it is expected that on April 11, 2019, the incident on the S1.9 branch in Malaysia will be completed by the Asia Pacific Gateway - APG. Meanwhile, the Pan Asia Cable Management Board also has a cable maintenance plan within 1 month from March 20 to April 20, 2019.

APG cable route has a continuous problem on the evening of February 26 and February 28, on the S1.9 and S3 cable branches, causing Internet traffic from Vietnam to be affected internationally. Until the morning of March 7, 2019, the problem on the S3 branch cable of the APG route has been overcome. Meanwhile, the cause of the problem on the S1.9 cable branch connection to Malaysia has not been determined and is expected to be repaired by April 11, 2019.

Cable breaking APG, Vietnam Internet is affected

According to information from Viettel, in the next few days the speed of Internet access of users in Vietnam will be affected. The reason is that the APG submarine cable route is having trouble affecting the international Internet connection traffic on this cable.

To reduce the impact of this incident on Internet access of users, Viettel said, they have implemented additional capacity, routing to other international connection directions. Currently, international partners still provide information about the time to overcome this cable breakdown.

In Asia, APG (Asia Pacific Gateway) is the largest in-traffic marine fiber optic cable in operation with maximum bandwidth of 54 Tbps. Going into operation in December 2016, APG cable route is expected to replace the frequently-damaged AAG cable line. APG is one of the important cable routes for Vietnam's international Internet connection. Therefore, if the APG cable line fails, it will affect the Internet connection of all major Vietnamese carriers.

Lien Asia cable had a problem, the network confirmed that it did not affect the quality of Internet services

On the morning of January 10, 2019, the Intra Asia (IA) cable system was in trouble, causing the international Internet connection capacity to be affected. Specifically, this incident caused Viettel's Internet capacity from Vietnam to Singapore, Hong Kong and the US to fall by about 20%.

The original cause of the incident is determined by the power supply fault for the equipment at the landing station in Singapore. Currently, the time to fix the problem has not been determined.

However, according to representatives of VNPT, CMC and NetNam, the usage capacity of the network operators on the sea cable IA is small so the quality of Internet services going to international networks is still guaranteed, the customers are almost not affected by this incident.

This is the first fiber optic incident in 2019 affecting Vietnam Internet to go international.

The Lien A submarine cable route has a total length of 6,800 km with a total initial investment of 200 million USD, was put into operation from November 2009. This cable route connects Singapore, Vietnam, Philippines, Hong Kong and Japan with design data rates up to 3.84Tbps and an initial terminal capacity of 320Gbps. In Vietnam, this Asia-optic fiber cable landed in Vung Tau.
