Admire photos of the Earth from space with the 108-point camera of Mi 10 Pro
In order for users to "view the earth through the 108-megapixel lens", Xiaomi partnered with Tianyi Aerospace Research Institute to launch satellites to bring the camera of Mi 10 Pro phone - Xiaomi's 10th anniversary phone , to space.
Lei Jun, Xiaomi's CEO, said he wanted a special wallpaper that was worthy of the Mi 10, such as the eye of a storm, a volcanic eruption . However, these scenes could not be captured on the ground. So in early 2019, he formed a team with the best members to work with Tianyi to bring a 108-megapixel phone camera to the Tianyi TY15 satellite.
It took his team 168 days to solve 343 problems, different incidents to put a phone beyond 500km into orbit. These are issues related to space, weight, and temperature differences from -30 to 70 degrees Celsius. The phone has been redesigned with thinning components, vibration dampers, and modules. 100 megapixels custom aluminum frame .
Tianyi TY15 satellite with camera system of Mi 10 is launched into orbit on November 3, 2019.
