7 reasons Microsoft urges users to abandon Windows 10 to switch to Windows 11

In about 187 days, Windows 10 support will end and Microsoft will start forcing supported PCs to upgrade to Windows 11. People with unsupported PCs will see a full-screen banner to recycle their PCs and buy Windows 11, but why should you buy Windows 11? In a new document, Microsoft has listed seven reasons to abandon Windows 10.

As first spotted by Windows Latest, Microsoft has created a new support document titled '7 Tips to Get the Most Out of Windows 11' and is set to release on April 3, 2025. This support document is a gentle nudge to encourage Windows 10 users to upgrade to Windows 11 before support ends in October 2025.

The support document published on Microsoft's website is not very interesting and does not provide any real reason that would convince users to try Windows 11. The document also looks like it was written by a Microsoft intern or AI because it confuses "icon" with "live tile" in the Windows 11 Start menu.

In the documentation, Microsoft says Windows 11 has a better Start menu and you can get the most out of it by customizing the interface, but we're not sure we can really agree with this claim.

The Start menu in Windows 11 seems limited compared to what we have on Windows 10.

For example, you can't move the Start menu to the top or to the sides like you can in Windows 10. You also can't resize the Start menu and choose what appears. On top of that, the Start menu in Windows 11 isn't interactive or engaging.

However, Microsoft justifies the new Start menu in Windows 11 by describing it as "clean, centered, and incredibly easy to personalize."

The support documentation claims that you can 'rearrange tiles or even resize them entirely to suit your preferences on Windows 11.'

However, Windows 11 doesn't have tiles. That's a Windows 10/8 thing. Support documentation shouldn't make bold claims like this, especially when non-tech savvy users might believe it and expect to upgrade to something that no longer exists.

Microsoft repeats that again in the next line, stating, 'right-click any app or tile and select the option you like.' As mentioned, tiles do not exist in the Windows 11 Start menu. Additionally, Microsoft incorrectly stated that you can resize the Start menu.

In addition to the new Start menu, Microsoft has 6 other reasons or "tips" to use Windows 11 instead of Windows 10.

You might want to try Windows 11 because it has Snap Layouts, which lets you rearrange apps and stay productive.

Here's a full list of reasons Microsoft feels justified in abandoning Windows 10 in favor of Windows 11:

  1. New Start Menu
  2. Snap Layouts
  3. Multiple desktops : Use multiple desktops on Windows 11 to split work.
  4. Widgets panel : On Windows 11, Microsoft says you can get personalized news from MSN
  5. Focus Sessions : Microsoft says you can stay productive and focused with Focus Sessions in the Clock app, which integrates To-Do and Spotify
  6. Windows Hello : Windows Hello on Windows 11 is significantly better and there's no denying that.
  7. Better Dark Mode

This list doesn't seem very impressive, especially "Focus Sessions", as the feature has been partially broken for over 3 months and no one noticed, not even Microsoft.

Perhaps Microsoft could promote tabs in File Explorer or Notepad, Windows Subsystem for Linux, and a new Snipping Tool instead. Those are much better and more powerful reasons than integrating Spotify into the Clock app.

Hopefully Microsoft will create more documentation and videos to encourage Windows 11 adoption, but if you don't want to upgrade, you can pay the $30 and continue using Windows 10 safely.
